Since June 19, 2017, .basketball has been in the Sunrise phase for registration to members of the basketball community. And it’s this commitment to cater to the global basketball community that makes the roll out of .basketball slightly more complex than the usual new TLD rollout.
The Sunrise phase will last from June 19 through August 21, 2017, during which time .basketball domains will be those with TMCH registrations. During the Sunrise phase, .basketball domains will cost $1050.68* for the first year.
Then, from August 22, 2017 until January 7, 2019 (yes you read that right: 2019), .basketball domains will be available exclusively to basketball clubs, teams, events, etc., so long as they are part of the basketball community.
To register a .basketball domain in this period, you’ll have to get a special token from the registry and within this period there will also be a few distinct roll-out phases:
- From August 22 through October 20, 2017 registrations will be invitation only. Registration of .basketball domains will not be available at Gandi during this period.
- From October 23 through December 22, .basketball will be in the Landrush phase, during which you may register a domain from our site with a token from the registry for $76.42* per year.
- From January 4, 2018 through January 7, 2019, a GoLive phase for those who obtain a token from the registry at a rate of $76.42* per year (at A rates).
Then, .basketball will roll out to the general public.
From January 8 through January 14, 2019, .basketball will enter into an Early Access Period. Domains will then be able to be purchased from the registry and not at Gandi during this phase.
Finally, .basketball will be available to the general public without a token from the registry in the GoLive phase starting January 15, 2019. Domains will then be available for $76.42* per year at A rates.
