Corporate news Updates and releases

Starting December 1, .beauty, .hair, and .skin are in Sunrise

The registry XYZ announced the launch of three new domain endings dedicated to the world of cosmetics and beauty products. The Sunrise phase for .beauty, .hair, and .skin begins December 1, 2020 and will end on February 5, 2021. This period is restricted to those who have a trademark registered with Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH).

Why should you register one of these domain names?

While the release of new domain endings like these allows businesses to more precisely target their markets, it can also be a source of new cybersquatting threats. Naturally, these risks increase when registration is not restricted and comes at an affordable price.

Since the top-level domains (TLDs) .beauty, .hair, and .skin are all oriented towards the area of cosmetics and beauty products, the risk of cybersquatting is essentially for cosmetics or pharmaceutical businesses. Beyond the threat of a strategic registration by a malicious actor in order to gain a profit by exploiting a brandname, the cheaper registration prices ($1,062.43 USD in Sunrise and $19.33 in Landrush) can make these domains the targets of freelancers in the cosmetics industry who may ignore intellectual property rights.

Gandi Corporate Services’ advice

Among the new domain endings set to be released, .beauty, .hair, and .skin undeniably have potential given the value of the market they represent. Coupled with open registration at a low price, cybersquatting in these domains is a proven risk for cosmetics and pharmaceutical businesses, who we encourage to take advantage of the Sunrise period in order to secure their domain names despite the higher cost.
