More flexible registration conditions for .com.lb

Good news for businesses looking to expand in the Lebanese market — as for February 1, the LBDR registry that manages .com.lb domain names, has loosened restrictions on .com.lb domain name registration. It’s now no longer necessary for your brand name to be registered in Lebanon in order to register one of these domain names.

The new eligibility requirements for .com.lb

Previously, in order to register a .com.lb domain name, you needed all of the following:

  • a brand name registered in Lebanon (as a class 35)
  • a business registered in Lebanon
  • a postal address in Lebanon

Since February 1, 2021, the registry has loosened these restrictions in favor of the local presence requirement as a the only essential condition, sine qua non. Paper forms are still required along with documentation proving your eligibility for a .com.lb domain name, such as your Lebanese business registration certificate.

It’s also important to note that domain names registered prior to February 1, 2021, and therefore based on a Lebanese-registered brand, will continue to be subject to these rules. In other words, it will not be possible to change the owner of the domain name to a third party. If a domain name expires or deleted, the registry will not allow the domain name to be registered again for another 365 days after the expiration date of the domain name.
