Updates and releases

Soon, citizens of Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway can register .eu domain names too!

The official top-level domain (TLD) for the European Union is .eu. The registration of a .eu domain name is subject to specific eligibility criteria. The eligible categories of individuals, corporations, and other organizations are:

  • Citizens of the European Union, whether or not they are residents of the EU
  • Individuals who are not citizens of the European Union (EU) but reside in an EU member state or one within the European Economic Area (EEA)
  • Any company established in the EU or EEA (headquarters, central administration or home office)
  • Any organization established in the EU or the EEA

Until now, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway were excluded from the list of countries whose citizens were eligible to register .eu domain names.

But the good news is that the EURid registry has announced that, starting August 2, 2021, .eu citizenship eligibility criteria will be opened to Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, meaning that citizens of these countries, regardless of their country of residence, will be able to register a .eu domain name.

Please find the terms and conditions on the official website of the registry.
